This handsome dog's likeness is diminished by several things. First, the background clutter.
Next, his mouth is too relaxed and we see the loll of his tongue. The classic GSD headstudy truly demands that the mouth be open only a third of the way with the toungue out only far enough to begin to curve down.
Then, there's the ears. This dog was not really paying attention. He's in his home and is relaxing. His ears are back rather than alert and forward.
We think this is a beautiful dog and we think much can be done to improve his portrait. A final comment would be to loosen up your cropping and let the picture breathe.
